I used to start every morning the same way: with a bowl of cereal.
Quick. Easy. Tasty.
But about a year ago, I decided to stop. Not because I read some extreme “never eat cereal again” post online but because I started noticing how it made me feel. And when I took it out of my routine, the difference was clear.
This isn’t advice. I’m not saying you should skip cereal or stop eating breakfast. This is just my experience and it might give you something to think about if you’re feeling sluggish, struggling with skin breakouts, or finding your morning hunger a bit strange.
🚫 Cereal Wasn’t Doing Me Any Favours
The truth? Most cereals even the “healthy” ones are packed with sugar or refined carbs. They spike your blood sugar, then crash it not long after. I’d often find myself hungrier just 90 minutes later.
When I stopped eating cereal daily, I noticed:
- Better skin clarity (less inflammation, fewer breakouts)
- Improved focus and fewer mid-morning crashes
- Less bloating early in the day
- And interestingly… I wasn’t even that hungry in the mornings once I broke the habit
It made me realise: I was eating out of routine, not hunger.
🍽 What I Do Instead
I’m not anti-breakfast I just approach it differently now.
Some mornings, I don’t eat anything. I wait until I’m actually hungry, then I’ll eat. And if I do fancy something early, I usually go for:
- Toast with real butter or eggs
- A proper meal (like leftovers from the night before)
- A high-protein snack later in the morning if I’m training early
By skipping the quick-fix cereals, I’ve given my body more of a chance to reset in the mornings.
🤯 The Mental Shift: Less Sugar = More Clarity
Cutting back on that morning sugar hit didn’t just help my energy levels it improved my mental clarity too.
I felt less wired, more focused, and more in control of my eating throughout the day. When I wasn’t on a blood sugar rollercoaster, I found it easier to make better decisions around food and hunger.
🧠 This Isn’t a Rule — It’s Just What Works for Me
Everyone’s different. Some people genuinely feel great eating breakfast at 6am, and that’s fine. Others, like me, found that once we stopped doing it just because “you’re supposed to,” our bodies functioned better.
It’s not about skipping meals or chasing perfection it’s just about getting honest with how food actually makes you feel.
So if cereal works for you? Cool.
If it doesn’t, maybe try something different and pay attention to how your body responds.
